Seasons: Duck Dynasty

So a couple months ago, my housemates and I got home and were ready to relax. It was a Friday night and we flipped on the TV to veg out. We came across this random reality show that we thought was ridiculous, but we were hooked. The show? Duck Dynasty. It's about this redneck family who lives in Louisiana and they made it big making duck calls. It's completely ridiculous in that they blow stuff up, they hunt, they goof around at work, always wear camo, have great one-liners, and they are rednecks...but that's what makes it so funny.

We noticed there were certain things said throughout the show that indicated they held high moral values, and were religious in some way. It shows their family doing life, and teaching their kids the importance of waiting for sex until marriage, and reading your Bible. At the end of every show, they close it with the family having dinner together and praying. We thought it was cool, but weren't sure how legit it was, if they were really believers or not. Throughout the last couple months though, I had heard that some of the guys preach and were indeed followers of Christ. Awesome. Made me like the show a bit more.

This past week, we heard that Duck Dynasty was on the island filming the finale of their season. My housemate, Jo, is completely obsessed with them. She would love to be on the show. Can't you see it, the fiery British redhead mixed in with the rednecks? We jokingly laughed about how the objective for the week was to find them and meet them. Yesterday, she text me and said they were coming to a church here in town. So we went to that church this morning, and yes, we met them.

The father, Phil, preached in one service, and one of the sons, Jase, preached in the 2nd one. These men are fiery evangelists who are in love with the Lord Jesus. They preached the gospel with such clarity, and they knew the Word from memory. They are passionate about sharing Jesus in all that they do, and take every chance they get to share. (They found out they were coming to this church just the morning before, and Jase found out he was preaching the hour before.) They are always ready! And after the services, they graciously took pictures and signed autographs with everyone who asked.

I now have a new found respect for these men and their families, and like the show even more. If you haven't watched it, check it out. They are on A&E. There's so much junk on tv these days, but this is a reality show that is clean, funny, and they are trying to display the gospel in their lives (the network takes a lot out, but they are trying!).
